Digging into John, Together

written by Amy

Last December, I embarked on a project to write a Bible Study of the Gospel of John intended for beginners.  Chester and I have now spent several months and lots of hours working on it.  This summer, I was working on a leader guide and was inspired to post an invitation to our small town Facebook page.

I simply asked if any of the women would like to study the Bible together. Twelve women inquired and seven showed up, five of whom I’d never met before. We’ve been meeting weekly ever since (usually three to five of us on any given week, as schedules allow), using the study guide that I wrote.

It’s become a really sweet group. Most who come don’t regularly attend church, and a couple of the women may not even be Christians (yet) — but I love that they want to read the Bible together and really dig into it. Each week we read and discuss a short section, about ten verses, asking a lot of questions and sharing our thoughts. We share a little bit of life along the way, and pray for each other.

I don’t know exactly what God’s doing in each of our lives through this, but I’m thankful to be doing it together. If you think of it, I’d love your prayers for the group — for honest conversation, open hearts, and for all of us to keep getting to know Jesus better.

I haven’t taken pictures with the ladies who are studying John with me. But these are dear friends with whom I’m honored to share discipleship-centered friendships, just like these women coming to my home each week.
